AI Propaganda
A collection of works utilising a mix of human and artificial intelligence. Social commentary on the world we live in and speculation of how it will change following the takeover of AI.
‘Social commentary under the guise of branding.’
These four projects remark on themes of consumerism, convenience, health, wealth, etc. through the lens of branding. I have chosen industries which exploit these themes and have been detrimental to society, as well as speculating how it may be further taken advantage of with the implementation of artificial intelligence.
01.
Farmstead Supermarket
This project scrutinises the supermarket and the agriculture industries. Questioning how natural produce may be genetically and artificially made or modified and also packaged up with the branding of an organic veneer.
The shelves at Farmstead are overpacked with an abundance of product which is unnecessary, but just put it in your trolley and continue to feel jolly. A man walks the dimly lit supermarket, towered by the overwhelmingly packed shelves which seemingly never end.
Super(ficial)market - This wordplay is a perfect summary of the supermarket idea. Farmstead is this seemingly fresh and organic
farm-sourced grocery, but beyond surface level it is all artificial and modified.
This communicates how the automation of shopping will be even further enhanced than it already is. The message tells the reader they don't have to do anything, this undermines the purpose of humans as they will become lazier and less competent due to AI.
This showcases how every product in supermarkets are packaged up. The label communicates false certifications such as organic and ethical, when it is really the opposite.
These packets again showcase the packaged nature of everything with the 'Farmstead' logo just slapped on to make it look appealing.
This is a potential method in which AI could produce food using artificial techniques to genetically construct the 'perfect' produce.
The 'farms' which produce stock for the supermarket are not quite the same as natural farms ran by humans. Instead controlled by AI robots to create food inside artificially. Farmstead advertising its 'organic' and 'fresh' produce is actually artificial and unethical, but the humans won't know because they are fooled by the branding charade.
02.
Speedy Eats Fast Food
This project showcases a collection of propoganda regarding fast food. It questions areas of convenience, health and human incompetence through phrases which mock the audience. Speedy Eats is a fast food chain which emphasises on the speed in which they make and deliver food.
The first poster (left) blatantly lies about the nutrition which their food provides to persuade customers to buy it.
A striking image of an obese man eating a burger shows how it will be normalised to be unhealthy as humans become obsolete. The phrase mocks humans as they become too incompetent to actually do anything, such as even ordering their food, let alone cook it themsleves!
The second advert completely disregards the assurance of quality regarding health, taste, etc. to emphasise the fact that they deliver instantly, making it convenient for humans.
Savour the speed. Convenience has become a factor which caused us to rely on something else to do a task for us or make it easier, this may seem beneficial but it is making us more and more useless.
03.
ExcellaBank
This collection is based on the industry of banking. I wanted to showcase ideas of value, which humans created and how it has consumed us and will further be impacted with the innovative integration of artificial intelligence.
This shows how the digitisation of everything, specifically cash has removed the tangible object and therefore the sensory interaction. The economic system may completely self-destruct due to the rapid takeover of AI.
If AI replaces humans, we won't earn money. But we won't have to pay for things because AI doesn't require money, therefore making it a useless system of value. This poses a question to the audience to see if humans can fight with AI for jobs.
This advertisement plays with the idea of consumerism, encouraging people to buy things for the sake of nothing. It also mocks the high interest rates by the banks.
This is a grim way to propose how humans have sentenced ourselves to 'death' by creating AI which is also powered by billions of dollars in a competitive industry where money is being made from artificial intelligence. The image depicts these artificial creatures torturing mankind for its 'wrong-doings.'
04.
Façade Beauty Costmetics
This collection displays works which question the idea of beauty in today's age. How humans have created this facade to look and feel 'good' in order to become valuable in society. AI may distort these ideas as everything becomes more artificial.
The idea of masking identity to appear attractive creates this facade of natural human beauty. Human attraction toward plastic appearance is an unethical concept which deflates the meaning of what it means to be human. The concept of beauty has changed with make-up and plastic surgery causing people to have artificial appearance in combination with low/artificial intelligence which results in a synthetic soul of humanity.
A suffocating look beneath the fabricated surface. It is difficult to put on an act of looking good. The natural combination of physical, mental and spiritual pathways is what makes us unique creatures. This emphasises the fact that make-up is used to cover up one's natural appearance to create a look which is considered beautiful.
This plays with the idea that make-up is a silly act as it has resemblance to that of a clown. A clown can make people laugh and also be terrifying. The circus is a metaphor for society.
